I met Austin back in high school through All-State Jazz Band, and he was just an absolute unit on drums; no-nonsense swing feel, and readily available marching snare chops that he wielded with great responsibility. (Uncle Ben would be proud)

This track, "Dwarf", was supposed to be this intricate layered thing that I put together based around 24-beat loop, but I was going to wait and see how Austin interpreted the Rhodes loop before adding anything else.

He sent me three takes. One in 3/4, one in 4/4, and the third was just him straight up murdering his drums over the entire 2 1/2 minute loop.

The last three Journal entries have been really groovy and pleasant, so I felt like I wanted to embrace the chaos, so instead of adding any additional parts, I just put all of my energy into messing with his drums and trying my and at distortion and delay manipulation. I shortened the clip a little, and tried to match the video editing to how I perceived Austin's attempted murder of what looks to be a lovely drum kit.
