about

Tyler is a world-class drummer with crazy chops, incredibly nuanced feel, top-notch gear, well-listened, well-traveled, agreeable, and most importantly, super friendly.

Tyler is also the most reclusive drummer I've ever met, and it took me over a year to finally meet him after moving to town and hearing about him from several of my colleagues. I played in a pop band with him for a hot second, and he had me on a Christmas gig of his last winter, but that's about it.

But I'll be damned if I don't work with this gentleman as often as I can, so this project was the perfect opportunity to get him on something without coaxing him out of his lovely home studio (where he primarily teaches, rather then hustling for gigs).

"Prologue" just feels like it should start an album, so I named it that. It's a chord progression I came up with a few years back because I realized that I hadn't ever written anything with a key center in B, so I wrote something.

Tyler took a very creative orchestral approach to this track, so I added a simple Glockenspiel/Bell melody as I often do, then tracked some laid back bass. Worked on some transition automation, and threw a few tape deck samples in from a 2000s era AIWA portable stereo, then just beefed Tyler's drums up a bit to add to the V I B E.
