Rev. Another piece celebrating two great minds that I idolize.

In this case, one living and one deceased; one musical, and one not.

Who are they? Why, none other than R(yuichi Sakamoto) and Rev(rend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Both born one day apart.

Sakamoto is one of the most brilliant musical minds out there; a composer with breathtaking auditory imagery and one of the most voices in the film score world and Japanese culture as a whole.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is self-explanatory. My identity as a black man in the United States of American– my freedom to express myself and privilege of being able to pursue my dreams would be impossible without the literal blood, sweat, and tears Dr. King poured into his life's work. He gave his life protecting the freedom of little black boys and girls everywhere. I'm one of those little black boys and girls.

Both incredibly important figures in different ways, and both influential on my artistry. I sat at a piano and simply dreamed– a dream that perhaps Dr. King or Mr. Sakamoto would have had if they were me.
